WEIRD-ISH 3: Monday motivation

We made it!!!! This marks the end of the WEIRD-ISH series. It has been fun all the way and I'm hoping you didn't find my thoughts too weird *winks*. Remember I said LIGHTNING (the first installment in this series) was probably my weirdest write up in this series. Well, I thought so until I saw this that you are about reading. I honestly can't say what was going on in my head when I was writing this. I doubt I had any specific thing in mind, I just wrote and this was born. Anyways, enjoy the read. PS: it's rather short.    Gone are the days of doing things just because of people. People's opinions don't sting any longer, what matters is I'm happy and not going against God's will. I don't need to be motivated to do what I ought to do or do better at certain things. Self motivation is all that's needed, trying to break the previous records I've set. A sense of purpose motivates me, the knowledge/hope of a better future spurs me, not the achi...

WEIRD-ISH 2: Happiness

Image
I'm back, with more weirdness. This particular write up was written "just because". So, I wanted to write something with some element of sentimentalism. HAPPINESS was what I thought up. Hoping it would be a pleasurable read. Credit    Happiness is a choice but it can be a hard one to make at times. Times when one is faced with every saddening thing possible, it's hard to choose happiness. Times when one is up against the worst occurrences, it's hard to choose happiness. Times when life throws rocks and hauls boulders one's way, it's hard to choose happiness.                                       Credit Choose to happy irrespective of situations that glare at you with their ugly faces. Choose to be happy though, it's hard in the face of adversity. Choose to be happy cos sadness hardly ever proffers solution. Credit    Choose to be happy, choose to look adve...

WEIRD-ISH: Lightning

Image
Welcome y'all to the first installment of the WEIRD-ISH series. This is probably the weirdest of the posts I've got in store. Enjoy.    THUNDER by IMAGINE DRAGONS left me not only bopping my head but thinking. Sounds weird? Well, my thoughts created a correlation and contrast between LIGHTNING and THUNDER. I definitely prefer lightning. I feel like it sums me up. You only see LIGHTNING but you hear THUNDER (more like a racket). They both start off at the same time (based on science) but LIGHTNING touches down first as it isn't preoccupied with a show of noise unlike THUNDER. Source    Lightning is more “impactful” than it seems. It does kill (struck by lightning?) but certainly doesn't look it. Thunder, on the other hand is pretty much all bark, no bite. Just a racket to make fear set in but in the long run, it doesn't hurt per se. My inference from all of this is; quite a number of times, it's best to be seen than heard. Let your works speak for you (...

Happy new month!!!!

As February is a weird month (number of days), I deem it appropriate to do this now. So, I have a couple of write ups that I just can't seem to place. Tbh, I didn't really plan to write them, like, I didn't give them much thought prior to grabbing my pen. When I was done with my pen however, they ended up making sense. So, right now, I'm like, "why not?" * shrugs shoulders *    I'm a weirdo—not the regular type of person, don't ask what regular is * covers face *—even if I say so myself and these posts have some weird undertone in my eyes. Well, I'd be turning them into a blog series (I did one earlier, here, here and here), that seems like the best and sensible thing to do. The series would be named thus: WEIRD-ISH . I'm hoping you find them fun and interesting to read and hopefully, not too weird.    This is just to usher the series and wish y'all a fab and fulfilling month. The posts would be weekly, commencing next week. Stay tuned...

Bye-bye Old school

Image
I wrote this article last year but somehow, it was pushed to the background like many of my journaled posts. Well, well, just pretend like it's last year and enjoy reading. Image credit    For some weeks now, I've been close pals with my FM radio which has given me the chance to listen to Nigerian music that I guiltily don't go all out to listen to. Music is a stress reliever and that is true and totally fine. For me however, aside the beat—that truly could relieve stress. Listened to instrumentals?—I'm one for content. Whenever I listen to music, I unconsciously keep my ears up to hear every word possible in that song, in order to assess if it's something I'd like to listen to on a regs—probably why I tilt towards ballads. Sadly, quite a number of Nigerian artistes have little or no real content in the music they churn out. Ironically, quite a number of Nigerian songs talk about the same thing; lust as love, the physique opposite sex (majorly female) a...

Musing: Social media, closer but distant.

Image
Hey guys!! It has been a while I posted any of my musings. I'm here with one today. Image credit    It's no news that we are in the computer age and the internet and social media are slowly but steadily becoming a part of our lives. From top social media sites and apps, forums to blogs, social media is fast becoming something that every internet user has a hand in. Social media connects people far and wide, it links one up with new people. It could also bring about communication with long-lost friends. It seems social media has bridged a gap in communication, right? But my question is, has it really? Image credit    Yes, the social media platforms seem to have definitely brought us closer, just type some words, tap a button and presto! You’ve gotten through to that certain person. I could not agree more that it makes it easier to reach people, no need scaling 7 mountains just to say hello. You could just say hello from the other side. Sadly,...

18 things to help make the most of '18

Image
I believe I have said this already but there’s no harm saying it again: HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS!!! Looking to having a splendid year here and in reality, hoping you do too.    I initially was shying away from making a “new year's post” . Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to but it just wasn’t flowing. I feel like many a time, New Year posts and its likes make life look like it’s “ one-size-fits-all ”. Definitely, there are habits that should and should not be cultivated by all, but still, one road doesn’t lead to the market. Well, after a series of happenings, I finally got what I wanted to have as my New Year’s post for you all. It’s a new year and I’m presently not in the mood for a lengthy post so, I’d just drop a list *winks*. 18 things/tips to help make the most of 2018 (My thoughts). 1. Don’t trust your happiness in the hands of any except God and yourself. 2. Please God with your actions, thoughts and speech. 3. A heart of gratitude in all situations. 4. A spiri...
