THE REVIEW: AMERICANAH

Some weeks ago, i stumbled upon this book with my coz and decided that i must definitely read it while on an 11-day break from my pretty stressful exams. I actually had had an encounter with the book like a year ago with one of my English teachers, asked if I could borrow sit, though it was declined. I got another book by the same author which turned out interesting. This book “Americanah” revolves around the lives of two people; Ifemelu who was from a home with an extremely religious mother and a father who spoke fluently so as to hide his insecurities (as implied by the writer) even though he wished he had a post graduate education. And Obinze whose Father died when he was just 7 years of age and a mother who worked in a university in Nsukka, Nigeria.  The book keeps a good touch with both the past and present of the main characters.   The book begins with the present where Ifemelu is in Princeton, America, owns a blog and plans on going back to...

BAG OF TROUBLES

I am temporarily back and I decided to pacify you with this short story. ENJOY!!!!! During gym class, John's mind was wandering as he remembered when he once mistook another person's bag to be his. With a smirk on his face, he reminisced the whole experience. It was a bright Thursday morning which was one of the days gym classes held. Some days before the gym class, John got a new backpack which unknown to him was similar to that of Susan, a girl whom he had gym classes with. That fateful day, everyone got a change of clothes in preparation for gym class and dropped their bags in front of the changing room. After the tedious exercise which involved jumping on lean horses without falling off (a balance test) everyone went to get their bags and that was when he picked up Susan’s bag instead of his and headed to the cafeteria because it was lunch break. At the cafeteria, John got to the serving table and picked up his tray served with a sponge cake, fried rice w...

AWAY ON A FRENCH LEAVE

Good day my dear viewers. Happy New Year and i pray that the year shall be a good one for us all. I've been seeing the "New Year, new you" phrase virtually everywhere but i don't think it ’ s a "new you" but just different character(s) but that is by the way. My main reason for posting today is inform my lovely people (YOU) that I will sadly not be able to post until around the mid-year because I have some mad preparations to do for my upcoming exams. Hope you will understand, wish me luck and hope to post in June or earlier if possible. Have a blast of a day/night wherever you are.

SNACK RECIPES

Image
It's yuletide season again and I feel obliged to share some of my favourite recipes. We'll take this in bits. Patacones      Ever since I stumbled upon this delicacy on what my brother calls "German TV" (DW: Deutsche Welle), I fell in love with unripe plantain (green plantain). This is one of the ways I can eat green plantain without worrying about the taste (another is unripe plantain porridge which BTW is so AWESOME). Below are the ingredients, utensils and procedures used in making this delicacy and heard it is a Latin American delicacy. ·          Very green plantains or nearly ripe plantains for a sweeter variation (The plantain on the left is nearly ripe but that on the right is unripe but the lighting makes it look ripe). ·          Lots of vegetable oil ·          A knife for peeling, scraping &...

APOLOGIES, APOLOGIES!!

G ood day my relentless viewers, to begin with, I would like to apologize for being AWOL, seemed to have a lot of things doing and didn't get enough time to make new posts. BELOW is a poem to make up for the lost time. Enjoy as you read:  He is the reason He is the reason why I wake up, The reason why I do a joy jump. He is the reason why I live, The reason why I give. He is the reason I am agile, The reason why I pick up my phone and rhyme. He is the reason why I am unique, The reason why my poems are your pick. He is the reason why I am so fly, The reason why I feel high. Will try not to make this happen again. CIAO!!!!!!!!

HELPING HELPS 2

Mark made so many visits to the house; eventually an elderly woman came to answer the door. She looked lonely, depressed and haggard. “What do you want from me” she shouted. “Ma, I was just wondering if you need help to clean your environment”, Mark replied. “I don’t need your help ,get out of my face before I hurl things at you.” She retorted. Mark walked off but still felt like helping her   despite her initial unpleasant attitude to him,so he made it a point of duty to visit her when he had the time even when he was not on his cleaning round in the neighbourhood and cleaning the surrounding of the house for her from time to time. This endeared Mark to the old woman. She thought to herself, “I think I should have a chat with this lad one of these days, he seems to be a pleasant and persistent young man”. Meanwhile Mark’s classmates in the college had all graduated and were working in different places, Derek had a job with an accounting firm but he got into trouble due to...
