DEAR WHOEVER…

Done with my last exams for the semester, sitting in front of my screen trying to release canned up stress from the back to back exams and then an argument ensues. What started as a discussion turns into an actual brouhaha, war of words and battle of…. could I say wits?
You might wonder what the argument streaming into my ears right past my earbuds was about?? Y’all definitely have heard about the advance fee fraud guys (YAHOO BOYS), yes? That is what the centre of the argument was. A major fraction of the arguers were legit defending the place of these scum of the earth guys.
A residual part of my brain already takes this generation as a bunch of entitled kids and this argument then makes me realize the materialistic nature of most in this generation.

A summary of all the "BS" that was said during this argument:

A good name is better than riches

The argument spanned from legitimizing the craftiness of the fraudsters on the basis of politicians being equally as fraudulent, the lack of security in terms of jobs in the country and then the “fact” that yahoo boys hit it by grace (which I found most annoying). All of these were said with little regard for the image that these present to country as to outsiders on one hand. On the other divide of the argument, hustle wasn’t disregarded or undermined but the arguer was more or less pushing for legit hustle AKA don’t use your own to spoil that of others whereas, create way for them too.
And there I was smack in the middle of this vocal battle miserably trying to make sense of the Johnny English film I was meant to be enjoying.

MY TAKE??

I am not one for arguments but, this is my take. Materialism or no materialism, I have come to discover this generation to be one that more or less dwells on the ephemeral forgetting that there is a whole lot more to life beyond what to eat or wear and more recently, drive. Life on a whole goes beyond how much you have in your accounts. Relationships are one of the most important things in life and I dare say it stands shoulder to shoulder with money on the list of priorities.
Dear whoever, you don’t need to justify certain things that are wrong on the basis of “others are doing it”. As always, what is wrong is wrong, the number of people involved doesn’t make fraudulent acts anything close to right. There’s no amount of acclaimed facts that would change the fact that swindling and taking advantage of others to enrich yourself is as wrong as it sounds.

Valid, there is little assurance and security in this part of the world.
Valid, people in power are equally as guilty.
Valid, getting a higher education guarantees little.
Valid, the rich have the tendency to be more recognized and respected. All this and many more are true, sadly. That however doesn’t justify getting proceeds from “unhealthy means’’. No be any way be way

There’s a way that seems right to man but the end thereof is destruction.”

Dear whoever, things are bad enough as they are (seen the news lately?). Don’t let your thoughts for today jeopardize your benefits in the future. Remember, we are all representatives of our families wherever we go and invariably reps of our country/countries. If we spoil the name and cred of our country in other countries cos of what we stand to gain now, consider that one day, posterity is likely to be disadvantaged by the decisions made by you today and they would be won’t be far from right if they cursed your memories.

 Dear whoever,
don’t think only for today,
think for future generations.

'Mina.
